PESHAWAR: Enrollment Campaign of the Elementary and Secondary Education (E&SE) department has received an unprecedented response in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as 142,140 children have been so far enrolled-85,517 boys and 56,623 girls.
It merits mentioning here that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan kicked off the campaign here on September 10 by getting two kids enrolled. E&SE secretary Joudat Ayaz described the results of the enrollment drive as \\\"extremely encouraging\\\" as only 40,000 new students were enrolled last year.
He attributed this success to the teamwork of the E&SE department. \\\"Within less than a couple of weeks, the E&SE department has succeeded in enrolling such a huge number of students,\\\" he said.
The campaign, he added, would continue at least for next four weeks, which would help bringing maximum number of children to the schools.
Data gleaned from the Education Management Information System (EMIS) of the E&SE department shows that with the figure of 21,821 new students, Peshawar district is on the top, followed by Swat and Mardan where 15,338 and 14,341 students were admitted, respectively.
So far as girls\\\' enrollment is concerned, Mardan district having 11,742 new girl students is closely chasing Peshawar district which has hitherto registered 12,630 girls.
Kohistan and Tor Ghar districts went to the bottom where 513 and 1,011 new students could be enrolled, respectively. Further breakup of the data reveals that in Lower Dir 7522 students were enrolled, while in Abbottabad 6880, Charsadda 6486, Mansehra 6479, Kohat 6178, Bannu 5702, Haripur 5250, Shangla 5195, Malakand 4904, Nowshera4662, Lakki Marwat 4517, Dera Ismail Khan 4216, Swabi 4194, Dir Upper 2983, Buner 2758, Karak 2752, Hangu 2640, Chitral 2410, Battagram 1851 and Tank 1537 were admitted.
