PESHAWAR: Expressing dissatisfaction over the slow pace of investigation in cases, Additional Inspector General Police (IGP) Investigation Abdul Saeed Naveed on Tuesday directed officials to trace proclaimed offenders and criminals using mobile SIM cards.
“There is a lack of team work and reports of corruption against investigation officers, but strict action will be taken against those found guilty,” said Naveed, while presiding over a meeting of investigation officers from across the province after taking charge as Additional IGP Investigation at the Central Police Office (CPO).
Naveed asked investigation officers to ensure their availability in courts and not create hurdles for witnesses. “There are complaints that investigation officers remain absent from police stations for a long time. As a result, cases remain pending for months which is not a good trend.”
He said every district investigation officer was bound to call the complainant within 15 days of the FIR’s registration and inform them about the progress in the case, in addition to apprising his superior officers at CPO. “This is a rule which should be strictly followed as inefficiency in investigating cases will not be tolerated any longer.”
On the occasion, Naveed was informed a small forensic science laboratory was being established in Landaki, Swat.
