Bid to smuggle meat thwarted


LANDIKOTAL: The Khassadar personnel have seized 1000 kilograms of meat being smuggled to Afghanistan, an official said on Thursday.

Muhammad Zaman, a Khassadar Subedar, told reporters on phone that a passenger coach (P-2514) was stopped at the Michini checkpost and 1000 kilograms of meat being smuggled to Afghanistan was recovered.

He said the meat was concealed in the hidden cavities of the coach. Driver of the coach identified as Sayed Pirzada, resident of Nowshera, was apprehended and sent to the Landikotal lockup.

It was the second attempt to smuggle slaughtered animals to Afghanistan during the current week.After the Peshawar High Court orders, the Khyber Agency political agent had directed the assistant Landikotal political agent not to allow any kind of food items including cows, buffalos and meat to Afghanistan.
