Youth centres to be set up in KP districts

PESHAWAR, Sept 17: The provincial government has decided to set up youth centres in different districts to involve young people in health activities.
According to a press release issued by Tourism Corporation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in the first phase youth centres will be established in seven divisional headquarters of the province.
These centres will be established in the existing government buildings like sports complexes and local government institutions. Seminars, workshops, cultural events, healthy activities related to sports and environment, youth exchange programmes, training, career counselling will be held in the centres to involve youth in anti-narcotics and social welfare activities.
The decision to establish youth centers was taken in a meeting of working group on sports, tourism, archaeology, museums and youth affairs. The meeting, attended by MPA Arif Yousaf, archaeologist Farooq Swati, archaeologist Dr Faridullah, Eng Said Mehmood, Abdul Khaliq, Usman Ali and Meena Khan Afridi, was chaired by Provincial Minister Mehmood Khan.
The department of sports, tourism, archaeology, museums and youth affairs has called in experts from the relevant fields and has taken them on board to gear up the system towards grassroots empowerment that is expected to increase the income and improve living conditions of the people.
The department was entrusted to work out a mechanism to enable youth and involve them in nation building activities. The meeting decided to establish youth centers/Jawan Marakaz at different districts of the province for the purpose.
The meeting was told that youth advisory boards consisting of 10-13 members had been constituted in seven district headquarters that would be facilitated by district administration and youth affairs department.
The ongoing projects of Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were also discussed in the meeting. It was said that two events of photography and food festivals would be held in Abbottabad and Islamabad.
One of the ferries from the fleet of Kund has been shifted to D.I. Khan that will be made operational during an inauguration ceremony next month.
Due to importance of linkage between youth and tourism, many youth programmes have been outlined by TCKP, included hiking at Supat, development of Gabeen valley near Matta, development of Kumrah valley, youth hostels at Batakundi Naran, log huts and restoration of skiing facilities at Malam Jabba, development of Thandiyani-Nathiagali Forest track and construction of chair lift at Miran Jani Top to facilitate locals people and tourists.
A jeep safari is also being organised by TCKP in winter in Kohat Toi Banda to attract adventurous tourism. Weeklong activities were planned to celebrate the World Tourism Day in Swat and a train Safari was scheduled on September 25 from Peshawar to Attock Kurd, the press release said.
