UNDP to extend strengthening rule of law program to other districts

PESHAWAR (PPI): Country Director, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Marc-Andre\' Franche has said that the strengthening rule of law programme currently underway in Malakand Division will be extended to seven more districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He was addressing media workshop on \'Ethics of Reporting in Law and Justice Sector\' here Thursday. The workshop was attended by a large number of local journalists while senior journalist, Katrina Hussein participated as facilitator.
The project is assisting in promoting the rule of law through provision of support to the justice and security sectors in Malakand Division. The rule of law programme aims to improve and deepen on-going efforts to secure peace and stabilization through enhancing justice and sectarian processes.
After success in Malakand Division the project would be extended to four southern and three districts of Hazara Division. He said that rule of law is essential as it is pre-requisite for development in all sectors.
For this purpose, he said they are focusing on three areas, which also include the training of judiciary to bring improvement in the administering of justice. He said that in this connection they are working at both short and mid-term levels.
He said that under the programme, they are also for bringing improvement in prosecution and in this regard has established a modern Forensic laboratory in Swat. Similarly, he said that 25 women lawyers in Malakand Division have been imparted training and their studies are in final phases.
In Malakand Division, he said that the programme is working along with security forces, which is very crucial for rule of law. He said that they are also closely working with police for establishing community police and model police stations.
