Govt committed to eradicating polio: CM


PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said the government has launched a comprehensive strategy to eradicate polio virus from the province.

“The joint efforts of World Health Organisation (WHO) and provincial government to eradicate polio from the province are yielding positive and encouraging results; and hopefully the provincial government would manage to achieve the target of eradicating polio from the province within the stipulated time period,” he expressed these views while talking to a delegation of WHO led by Regional Director, WHO, Ala Alwan on Thursday.

The chief minister said the provincial government was taking necessary steps to make the polio vaccination campaign successful. “The provincial government is providing full security to the polio vaccinators for which necessary directives have already been issued to the provincial home department;” the chef minister added.

Secretary for Home and Tribal Affairs, Akhtar Ali Shah apprised the delegates of the measures taken by the provincial government for the security of the polio vaccinators.

Ala Alwan appreciated the efforts of the provincial government and assured all out support in this regard. He also assured support to the provincial government to recruit more lady health workers in order to reach maximum people to ensure the eradication of polio virus in the province.

US Mission: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said that the provincial government had come into power with a mandate of change and was working on introducing reforms in all sectors including education, health, police, local government system and social service.He was talking to a delegation of US Mission in Pakistan led by Deputy Chief of Mission Thomas Williams at the Chief Minister’s House.

They discussed matters related to peace and economic stability of the region and matters of mutual interest.The chief minister said deteriorating law and order situations in the region during the last three decades had badly affected the economy as it had brought the industrial activities to a stand still which resulted in unemployment in the province.He said the government was facing the challenge of reviving the sick industries and generating economic activities in the province to create employment opportunities.
