PESHAWAR:
An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday acquitted Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Muhammadi chief Sufi Muhammad in a treason case.
The total number of cases Sufi has been acquitted in has now reached five while seven cases of terrorism are still pending against him in the court.
ATC judge Shoaib Khan acquitted the TNSM chief after the prosecutor was unable to produce suitable evidence indicating Sufi’s involvement in the case for which he was arrested from Malakand division. Sufi was charged for holding a protest rally against the then president Pervaiz Musharraf and calling him a ‘US agent’. Due to security concerns in Malakand, Muhammad was shifted to Peshawar Central Prison and a camp court was setup where his proceedings are held.
